Liposuction

Liposuction: Step by step

Anesthesia

Medications are administered for your comfort during the surgical procedures. There are two types of anesthesia:

Local anesthesia: This form of anesthesia numbs only the treated area. Usually, the patient will also receive a sedative, which will make you drowsy or may cause you to fall asleep. The local anestheticis are injected directly into the surgical area. The sedative is generally administered through an intravenous tube.

Regional anesthesia: The epidural block (regional anesthesia often used in childbirth) is administered in the form of an injection and is given in the back. This injection numbs the lower half of the body. Usually, the patient will also receive a sedative, which will make you drowsy or may cause you to fall asleep.

Incisions & liposuction

Liposuction is performed through very small, inconspicuous incisions.

First, sterile liquid solution is infused to reduce bleeding and trauma.

Then a thin cannula is inserted through these incisions to remove excess fat using a controlled back and forth motion.

The dislodged fat is then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum instrument attached to the cannula.

Liposuction results

The improved body contour will be apparent after 1 - 2 weeks. After this period of time the swelling commonly experienced following liposuction subside.

Hhealthy diet and fitness will help to maintain the loss of excess fatty tissue permanently maintained. However, substantial weight gain can alter an otherwise permanent result.
